From that time on, the Hermit Sumeda did many meritorious deeds and was lived many millions of lives holding on to the conviction that he will one day become the Buddha. Finally he was reborn as a deva by the name of Setaketu in the celestial kingdom of Tusita. He was then enjoying all the pleasures of a celestial life.
While the deva Setaketu was enjoying the celestial life, in the human world, one thousand years earlier, there had been news circulating of the coming of the Buddha.
