There lived in the Kingdom of Kapilavastu, King Sudhodana and Maha Maya Devi, Queen of the Southern Palace Chamber, both of the noble Sakya clan. On the full moon day of Waso, Queen Maha Maya Devi gave charity and kept Sabbath. In the night, as she was asleep, she had a dream. In the dream a white elephant descended from the top of a golden mountain in the sky and entered her body.
The Queen was happy to note that she had conceived of a sacred child as indicated by the dream.
