When Prince Siddhattha came of age at sixteen, he did not need to have a formal education like others. He has already learned, without being taught, all the eighteen arts that men were required to learn. The relatives of the royal family did not believe this. They said in scorn, “The prince who has not been taught has not learned anything.” Upon hearing these words, the Prince drew a bow which had to be drawn by one thousand troops, in the presense of the royal relatives. Then only were the relatives, the ministers and others surprised, and they all gave the Prince their unending praises.
